Your GPA score is your ticket to success. Colleges and Universities have certain requirements that you must meet before they will consider you for acceptance. Your grade point average is one of the major considerations, so if you want to get into the best universities you need to know their GPA requirements. Once you know the GPA Score you need, it is important to find out what your grade point average is today.

Ivy League schools are considered to be the most prestigious schools in the United States and worldwide. Who wouldn't want to attend one of these beautiful, historic universities.

Due to the high number of applicants these universities can afford to be selective. You don't have to have a 4.0 grade point average and 2400 on the SAT to get in, but it certainly helps!!

They only accept between six and sixteen per cent of all applicants, approximately ten per cent from the USA and five per cent international students.

The eight universities that make up the Ivy League are most famous for their prestige, exclusivity, and academic excellence, in addition to their success in sports.

Approximately one third of all US Presidents attended one or more Ivy League Schools.

Is An Ivy School Right for You? If So Which One?

When you apply to an Ivy League school you are competing with the best of the best. Being ranked in the top few students in highschool dramatically increases your chances but don't forget you are competing against others who graduated valedictorian at their high school.

Most successful students graduate from high school in the top ten per cent, with a GPA score of 3.75 or higher. You will need good grades and high test scores to get accepted to an Ivy League school but that isn't the only thing they are looking for.

Their ideal candidate is a well rounded individual who has proven excellence and unusual achievement across a range of academic subjects and extracurricular activities. A love of learning, leadership experience, volunteer work and artistic abilities will get the attention of admissions counselors.

Brown University - Providence, RI

Brown University was founded in 1764 and is located in historic Providence which is the capital city of Rhode Island. Brown has approximately 8,500 students and is well known for its medical program. One of the most selective colleges, successful students have a near perfect 4.0 GPA or show some kind of remarkable talent or compelling story to get a close look even if grades and test scores aren't ideal. An education at one of the most academically stimulating schools doesn't come cheap though, tuition plus room and board for this Ivy League school will cost you around $50,000 a year!! Brown's admission requirements: 4.0 GPA; ACT Composite score above 30; Combined SAT score above 2100.

Columbia University - New York City, NY

Columbia University is a large research institution that was founded in 1754. The oldest college in New York State is located in Upper Manhattan, New York City. If you prefer the hustle and bustle of the city you might want to consider attending this Ivy League school. Columbia University has a very diverse student population of approximately 22,000 students in total and it's strength is in liberal arts and sciences. Columbia is comprised of many impressive historical buildings of the Italian Renaissance style and students have access to one of the best research libraries in the country. Columbia Law School ranks one of the top law schools in the country. Columbia is the only Ivy League School that has a school of journalism. Admission rate for Columbia University hovers around 7 percent. Tuition, books and room and board will set you back around $61,500 per year. Columbia's athletic teams are known as the Lions.

2018 Admission rate. Columbia received 40,203 applications and accepted 2,214 students, an admission rate of 5.5 percent.

Cornell University - Ithaca, NY

Founded in 1865 by Ezra Cornell who's vision was an institution "where any person can find instruction in any study." All students were welcome regardless of race, gender, ideology or socioeconomic status. Cornell University is the most educationally diverse member of the Ivy League. Located in a rural setting, it contains seven undergraduate colleges plus the colleges of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Law School, Engineering and Business Management. Tuition, books, room and board will cost around $60,000 per year. Cornell's athletic teams are nicknamed the Big Red.

2018 Admission rate. Cornell received 51,328 applications and accepted 5,288 students, an admission rate of 10.3 percent.

Dartmouth College - Hanover, NH


Located in a rural setting in Hanover, New Hampshire Dartmouth is the smallest university Ivy League school. Established in 1769 by Eleazar Wheelock it consists of a liberal arts college, and schools of medicine, engineering, and business.

2018 Admission rate. Dartmouth received 22,033 applications and accepted 1,925 students, an admission rate of 8.7 percent.

Harvard University - Cambridge, MA

Harvard was founded in 1636 and is the oldest institution of higher education in the United States. This Ivy League school is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Often considered the most prestigious. Academically best known for law, business, and medical schools. Boasts over 40 varsity sports teams named the Harvard Crimson. 19,500 students enrolled.

2013 Admission rate. Harvard received 42,749 applications and accepted 1,962 students, an admission rate of 4.6 percent.

University of Pennsylvania- Philadelphia, PA

One of the oldest universities in America the University of Pennsylvania was founded by Benjamin Franklin in 1743. This Ivy League school is commonly known as Penn State. Penn's historic, beautiful and vibrant campus is home to approximately 20,000 students. Well known for its Business school. Penn's sports teams are nicknamed the Quakers

2018 Admission rate. Penn State received 44,482 applications and accepted 3,731 students, an admission rate of 8.4 percent.

Princeton University - Princeton, NJ

Founded in 1746 and originally named the College of New Jersey. Princeton is one of nine colonial colleges founded before the American Revolution. One of the smallest of the private Ivy Leaguers, boasts more than 30 Nobel laureates among its past faculty and alumni. Located on a 500 acre campus in Princeton, NJ it is an independent, coeducational, nondenominational institution known for its instruction in the humanities, social sciences, and engineering. Princeton houses approximately 5,000 undergraduates and 2,500 post graduate students.

Princeton's colors are orange and black and the school's athletes are known as Tigers, and the mascot is a tiger.
